The Magician of Auschwitz is one of those books that fills you with both a sense of utter sadness as well as hope.  Here is a beautifully done book trailer to capture the essence of this true story:

This book is a companion piece to Trudy Ludwig’s  Gifts From the Enemy – both books the themes of kindness and compassion in the face of danger and prejudice. I would imagine that, read in conjunction with each other, these books could lead to the beginnings of powerful conversations in classrooms, conversations we need to have.

  1. I didn’t watch the trailer because I just got the book & haven’t read it yet. I’m sure it will be good to know about, but as you said, sad. It’s a good thing that we have the stories told.

  2. I loved Trudy’s book so I would imagine I will love this one too. We read the Boy in the Striped Pajamas this year for the first time. Sad part of history but so interesting to read and learn.
