Nonfiction Wednesday: The Magician of Auschwitz by Kathy Kacer & Gillian Newland

The Nonfiction Picture Book Challenge hosted by Alyson Beecher at Kidlit Frenzy.

The Magician of Auschwitz is one of those books that fills you with both a sense of utter sadness as well as hope.  Here is a beautifully done book trailer to capture the essence of this true story:

This book is a companion piece to Trudy Ludwig’s  Gifts From the Enemy – both books the themes of kindness and compassion in the face of danger and prejudice. I would imagine that, read in conjunction with each other, these books could lead to the beginnings of powerful conversations in classrooms, conversations we need to have.
